Documentary Highlights the E-waste Tragedy
By Anny Huberts In NewsElectrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE), and ICT equipment in particular, is the fastest growing consumer goods sector worldwide.Unsurprisingly, the corresponding E-waste stream also presents the fastest growing waste stream in the world. But there is both value and challenge in this stream.
The precious metals in e-waste streams coupled with rising materials prices and indeed materials scarcity, attracts a number of problems, from illegal waste trafficking and sub-optimal recycling to the dumping of ICT equipment, ecological and human disasters. This documentary on Belgium television makes the problems and underlying causes very clear. It also highlights the need for taking ‘shared responsibility’; something which encourages us in our attempts to help make a change through the Recover-E® Program.
